朱銘ZHU MING
B.1938
Ju studied sculpture with Lee Chin-chun form 1953 to 1957. He proceeded to learn modern sculpture under the Taiwan sculpture master YuYu Yang From 1968 to 1976. Ju had his first solo exhibition in 1976 at the National Museum of History in Taipei, which established him as a prominent figure of the Nativist movement of the 1970s. The following year, Ju held his first overseas solo exhibition at the Tokyo Central Museum of Fine Arts, which then traveled to the Hakone Open-Air Museum in Japan. It was during this period that Ju began to develop his famous Taichi series from the Previous Nativist series.Ju developed the Living Worid series during the 1980s.In 1991 Ju had a solo exhibition at the south Bank Art Center in London, the first solo exhibition on a Chinese artist to be held at the institution. In 1995,Ju was honored with a retospective of his works as the Hakone Open-air Museum celebrated its 25th anniversary.In 1997, his works were exhibited in the Place Vendome,Paris. After over a decade of Plnning, the Ju Ming Museum was founded in 1999 and opened to the public. ju has been invited to exhibitions in many major museum and institutions throughout Europe and Asia In 2003, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Fu Jen Catholic University. Recent solo exhibitions include a large-scale show featuring ove 60 works at the Singapore Art museum in 2004, ju Ming-Taichi sculptures at the China National Art Museum n 2006 and The Living World series-ju Ming's painted wood Sculptures at the National Taiwan museum of Fine Arts in 2006.
